The roots of our firm stretch back to 1968 when the father of today's owner founded a smithery in neighbouring Schönheide. In 1978, four years after successfully graduating from Dresden University, Wolfgang Schädlich, the managing director of today's steel and plant construction firm, opened a fitter's shop in Stützengrün. Despite the difficult economic and political conditions in the GDR, the company was able to develop into a medium-sized business. Under a free-market economy, the firm developed and grew quickly, and began trading under the name Stahl- und Glasbau Schädlich GmbH in 1992. In addition to the existing capabilities of a small firm specialising in heating, ventilation and plumbing services, a further limited company was founded in 1995. The aim of establishing this firm was the expansion of our range of services to include machine and plant construction. In 1997 a coating operation was established in order to finish zinc-plated and semi-finished aluminium and sheet steel by means of powder-coating. Employing this technique for our own use, the company began supplying the market. Since 31st January 2008 the whole enterprise has been trading as one under the name Stahl- und Anlagenbau Schädlich GmbH.

Streamlining our company has, in addition to the economic advantages, given a clear statement of the future development of our 170-employee business.
